A NOTE FROM TRACY:
People often ask why I became an acupuncturist, so I thought this would be a good place to share this story:
I began riding competitive trail (an equine sport) years ago and had a wonderful horse to share the sport with. We would train all through the scorching summer for the October 3-day 100 mile ride at the Biltmore Estate in Asheville, NC. After such hard work and effort, we would arrive only to fail the initial Veterinarian check. My mare was lame in one of her front legs. This didn't happen just one year, it happened two years in a row.
We returned home with very low spirits. What was I going to do? My wonderful friend that I had shared all these experiences with, called me to let me know she was going to have a veterinarian acupuncturist come to her barn to treat some horses. She asked if I would like to attend and see about treatment for my mare. I accepted and greatly anticipated the day. I knew nothing about acupuncture but had always been intrigued by this ancient system of medicine.
The day was finally here! The woman that arrived was nothing what I had expected. She was a short, blonde haired, blue eyed, petite woman with fire in her soul, Dr Peggy Fleming. Why was I expecting someone of the Asian decent? Well, she worked hour after hour on horses that were three times her size and did so without ever taking a break. I had not been able to speak to her as she was busy working with other people and their horses, but I sat there patiently waiting for my turn. As I sat there watching, I knew that I was seeing what the future had in store for me. I knew that acupuncture was what I was meant to do. Dr. Fleming later became a very good friend of mine, and we ended up going to Human Acupuncture School together. I greatly admire her; she is an incredible Veterinarian Acupuncturist, as well as a Human Acupuncturist now. Her 20 some years of experience with Eastern Medicine as a veterinarian was invaluable throughout our schooling.
For those of you wondering, my horse never did get better. Come to find out she had been used for fetal monitoring experiments. She unexpectedly aborted the baby and the wires that had been surgically placed, were just cut off and left inside of her. She had tons of scar tissue that caused her soundness complications. Removing the wires would have been worse for her at this point, than living out her life as a light use trail horse.
Acupuncture became a whole new life for me. It came very natural as if I had been doing it all my life. I am so glad that God gave me that special mare and that she brought this wonderful modality of healing to me, among other things.
As far as my personal experience with acupuncture, I stood where each and every one of you stand when trying to decide to seek treatment. You can talk to people and they can give you their stories and try to tell you their experience, what it did for them, how it made them feel, etc. You can talk to your Doctor, whom has probably never received acupuncture themselves and they may tell you it is a waste of time. However, acupuncture is such an individual experience, that the only way to know what it is and if it will work for you is to experience it for yourself. I tell patients it is similar to love; you can't explain that to anyone, they only know it once they have experienced it for themselves.
Here, I also must say that acupuncture is not the answer for everyone. For whatever reason some people do not respond. I have only had a handful of patients that did not get results, over the last 10 years. I guess that keeps me human and humble :) Huh?
I am happy to answer any questions or concerns by phone or email. Thank you for visiting my website and I wish all of you health and happiness.
